Description
The Friends to the Moon and Back patch represents a 55 year friendship between two women that turned into four women. A friendship born of the dream to fly the stars.
Astronaut Wives Sue Bean and Barbara Cernan came to NASA in January 1964 when their husbands, Alan and Gene were selected in the 3rd group of Astronauts. The families lived down the street from each other, and the women, both Texans became close friends. Their daughters, Amy and Tracy are the same age. Together the families supported each other through 5 spaceflights, including 3 flights to the moon and back.
